Damp Proofing
Damp
Proofing is a most frequently problems encountered in the home and commercial
buildings. Damp proofing is used in the absence of hydrostatic pressure and is
intended to protect the interior surface of foundation walls from water vapor
diffusion, caused by temperature and humidity differentials, and the wicking of
moisture through the wall by capillary action. The different type of damp
proofing methods, are as follows.
Integral
damp proofing – Some water proofing compounds are mixed in ordinary concrete to
fill up the voids of concrete. Some of patented water proofing compounds
available in the market. They are mixed
in certain specified percentage. This makes concrete water proofing
Membrane
damp proofing – it is necessary tom use a dpm under , in or on top of ground
supported concrete floor slabs as effective barrio to moisture rising from the
ground. The membrane should be continuous with the damp proof course in walls
to prevent moisture rising between the edge of the concrete slab and walls.
Cavity
wall construction – Today’s, cavity wall construction is mostly used a damp proofing prevent
the building from dampness.
Guniting – The
guniting is used for reconditioning old
brick, stone or concrete works which have deteriorated due to climate condition
or inferior workmanship.
Surface
treatment for damp proofing – surface treatment is done to fill up the voids of the surface of
the facing walls. Pains, varnishes, cement coating, bituminous solution,
calcium olets and strearates, ect. Are used for surface treatment.
