No more “Arrears” in Engineering Colleges affiliated to Anna University

You read it right. Students who are enrolled for engineering courses through colleges which are affiliated to Anna University cannot keep arrears any more. The new proposal which is coming into effect from the present educational year onward stipulates students to choose 2 subjects as elect apart from their main selection.
Anna University has the rule of changing the educational curriculum once in every 4 years. It was last amended in 2014. In lieu of this, there was a high committee meeting that was convened yesterday which included Higher Education first secretary Sunil Phaliwal, Tamilnadu Technical Education commissioner Rajendra Rathnu, Registrar of Anna University Ganesan, College of Engineering,Guindy’s Dean T.V.Geetha took part in the meeting along with others.
Post meeting, the Dean spoke to the press mentioning that the Engineering colleges which are situated within  the Anna University Campus (3) along with MIT,Chrompet and all the 518 affiliated Engineering colleges where this new curriculum is being incorporated. She also said that the emphasis this year has been given on employment opportunities on the courses being offered  which also includes giving training in the industries, imparting the knowledge on computers.
There is no question of arrears any further. If a person fails in a subject in the first semester, the internals that was scored for that subject would also get cancelled. He/She would have to reappear for internals and the main exams once again on third semester. If the student wish to sit in the classes of the failed subject, they would be allowed to do so.The internal exams for the failed subject can be taken anytime within 7 years which would effectively take out the word “Arrears” from the history.
The new grading system was also announced by the Dean wherein any one who manages to score less than 50 marks has to reappear for the exams.
